If you have time and want to get involved, then volunteering can do you a lot of good. Research has found that volunteer work can help us to live longer, stay well and enjoy life more. Getting involved in volunteer work:
  • gives satisfaction
  • increases our self-worth
  • provides continued learning
  • helps us to make a difference
  • broadens our horizons
When considering volunteer work, it's good to ask yourself some questions:
  • What do you enjoy doing?
  • Do you like working on your own, or as part of a team?
  • Do you prefer working alone or out there meeting people?
  • How much time do you want to give?
  • Will it be episodic or a regular set commitment?

Don't over commit yourself - you can always expand your commitment.
